Let us shift to the Parliamentary Form of Government

I am convinced the parliamentary form is better than the presidential one.

It is time for the Philippines to try it.  Really try it (not the cosmetic way that Pres. Marcos did before).

Presidential System: Electoral College

The President and Vice-President of the United States are voted indirectly by the people via the electoral college.  This is similar to the Parliamentary system.  Could this be the reason why the Presidential form works better in the U.S.A than in the Philippines?

I had an interesting conversation with a taxi cab driver last Friday (May 31, 2013).

He said that from his observations the most likely contenders against Binay will be Bongbong Marcos and former President Erap Estrada.

Do you agree?

Erap said he will only be a one-term Mayor of Manila.  So does it makes sense then to think he might be aiming for another post?  And why not the presidency?  He has a strong reason to do so as he needs to prove something due to that impeachment proceedings against him when he was President that resulted in EDSA 2.

On the other hand Bongbong Marcos could be a dark horse.  The taxi driver said Bongbong is only among the very few who has enough “asim” (charisma) to give a good fight to Binay.

Politics is not just about politicians.  It is more about the people, the electorate.  Those who have a lot to say against politicians should study first the character of its people, the electorate.

Maybe the reason why most people are disillusioned with politicians is because they expect to have perfect leaders . . . when reality is it is about having the best among imperfect people.

While there are some good and strong youth leaders, I agree and advocate the abolition of the Sangguniang Kabataan.

Aside from the reasons cited in the above articles, my simple reason is that there are already enough government institutions and programs that are directed towards the youth. Among them are the Department of Education and the Philippine Sports Commission.

Regarding the most possible compromise, the proposal of Angara to have a youth representative in the barangay council is the most sensible after the SK is abolished.

On increasing the age bracket of SK members to above 18 as an alternative, this is not necessary as anybody at age 18 is already eligible to run for a regular political office.
